Russia raises import quota for Turkish tomatoes to 500,000 tns
MOSCOW, Jul 20 (PRIME) – Russia has raised the quota on tomato imports from Turkey by 150,000 tonnes to 500,000 tonnes, the Agriculture Ministry said in a draft ruling published late on Wednesday.
Russia banned imports of some food from Turkey in January 2016 after an attack of Turkish air forces on Russia’s Su-24 jet fighter in Syria. Restrictions were gradually lifted starting from the autumn of 2016, but a ban on imports of tomatoes was kept until November 2017.
In May 2018, Russia lifted restrictions on some of Turkish tomato exporters, but set up an initial quota of 50,000 tonnes on total exports and expanded the quota several times after that.
